Yashasvi Jaiswal Nominated for February’s ICC Player Award

22-year-old India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for February. Jaiswal’s excellent performance played a vital role in India’s turnaround against England in the ongoing Test series.

Jaiswal reached new heights after scoring back-to-back double centuries in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot, helping India recover from a 0-1 deficit and make it three consecutive Test wins against England. The left-handed batsman’s achievement makes him the third youngest batsman in the world to register two double centuries in Tests, joining the prestigious company of Sir Donald Bradman and Vinod Kambli.

Jaiswal’s record-breaking 12 sixes take India to ICC Test summit clash

In the Rajkot Test, Jaiswal registered his name in the record books by hitting 12 sixes in a Test innings. His aggressive and fearless approach towards batting has not only showcased his skills but has also taken India to the top of the ICC World Test Championship table.

Throughout the series, Jaiswal scored 655 runs at an impressive average of 112 in the four Test matches that ended in February. His excellent form has not only cemented his position as the leading run-scorer in the ongoing Test Championship, but has also made his name worthy of a nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

Jaiswal faces tough ICC Player of the Month competition from Williamson, Nissanka

Jaiswal is facing tough competition for the award, with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka also nominated for the award. Williamson was instrumental in New Zealand’s historic Test series win over South Africa and Nissanka’s extraordinary double century in the ODI keeps them in the race.

Williamson’s batting performances included two centuries in the first Test at Mount Maunganui, followed by an unbeaten 133 in Hamilton that secured New Zealand’s series win and moved them to second place in the ICC World Test Championship table.

On the other hand, Nissanka’s explosive batting in ODIs helped him score the first double century for Sri Lanka by scoring an unbeaten 210 against Afghanistan in Pallekele. The 25-year-old continued his fine form with another century (118 off 101 balls) in the same series, earning his first nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

As the cricket world eagerly awaits the announcement of the award, the ICC has also nominated UAE’s Kavisha Agodej and Isha Ojha along with Australia’s Annabel Sutherland for the Women’s Player of the Month award for February.
