One of the major headlines has been the continued absence of Virat Kohli, who was not included in the squad for the remaining Tests due to personal reasons. The BCCI said in a statement that it expressed full respect and support for Kohli’s decision and stressed the need to give his full attention to personal matters.

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja Return to the Team with BCCI Medical Clearance

KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who were absent from the second Test due to injuries, have been included in the team after getting fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team. Rahul was struggling with a quadriceps injury, while Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury during the Hyderabad Test. His return adds depth and experience to the team.

Changes in the team for the third test and strategic moves of selectors revealed

BCCI has not made any mention of Shreyas Iyer’s back injury in the press conference. While Shreyas has not performed well with the bat in the seven Test matches he has played and his average has dropped significantly, KS Bharat has retained his place in the team. However, the selectors have included impressive Sarfaraz Khan in place of Rahul in the squad for the second Test.

If we look at bowling, then in another change Bengal fast bowler Akash Deep has been included in place of Avesh Khan. The selectors aim to provide exposure to Akash Deep, possibly grooming him for the future. The move is part of the team management’s strategy to develop a pool of talented fast bowlers.

Notably, there is no mention of Mohammed Shami in the squad, as he is recovering from an ankle injury and was not considered for selection. Shami’s absence could impact the team’s bowling options, especially in the fast bowling department.

Upcoming test match schedule and flexible return of the team

Despite initial reports of him being rested for the final two Test matches, Jasprit Bumrah has been retained as the vice-captain for all the remaining matches. The selectors have considered the 10-day break after the Visakhapatnam Test to be important in his retention. However, it is being speculated that regardless of the result in Rajkot, Bumrah may be rested for the fourth Test in Dharamsala.

Looking ahead, the third Test is scheduled to begin on February 15 in Rajkot, followed by the fourth Test in Ranchi from February 23 and the fifth and final Test in Dharamshala on March 7. After suffering a setback in the opening match of the series, where India lost after leading by a substantial lead, the team made a strong comeback in Visakhapatnam and leveled the series 1–1.

Indian team boosted by strategic choices in Kohli’s absence and return of key players amid anticipation for England Test series

While Kohli’s absence remains a focal point, the return of key players like Rahul and Jadeja gives a boost to the Indian team. The inclusion of new faces like Akash Deep and retaining Sarfaraz Khan reflects the selectors’ strategic planning for the future. As the team prepares for the crucial Test against England, fans are anxiously awaiting updates on the possible return of Kohli and the fitness clearance of Rahul and Jadeja. The series promises to offer exciting cricket action with many stories unfolding in the coming weeks.
