Nerijus Valskis retired

Former Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC player Nerijus Valskis on Monday officially announced his retirement from the football world, bringing an end to a football career that spanned multiple countries, and an Indian Super League final there was a football league.

The 36-year-old Lithuanian star striker spent most of his playing career in Lithuania and after playing football in Romania, Poland, Israel and Thailand, made a move to the Indian Football League with Chennaiyin FC in 2019. Valskis earned his place in the Lithuania national team in 2013 and represented his country in 24 international matches, including Euro Cup and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nerijus Valskis ends ISL journey

In the ISL, Valskis has played three seasons, making significant contributions with Chennaiyin FC during the 2019–20 season before moving to Jamshedpur FC in 2020. After returning to Chennaiyin FC in the 2021–22 season, he ended his Indian Football League journey.

Despite narrowly missing out on the ISL Cup during the 2019–20 season, Valskis has made a mark, standing as Chennaiyin FC’s second highest joint top scorer in the league and Jamshedpur FC’s third highest joint top scorer in the league. Remained as a scorer.

Valskis made a sensational debut for Chennaiyin FC by scoring the winning goal in a dramatic 2–1 win against Hyderabad FC. His composure in injury time broke the team’s seven-match winning streak, providing momentum to Chennaiyin FC’s campaign.

During the 2019–20 playoffs, Valskis played a key role in Chennaiyin FC’s journey to the final, contributing with his goals. Despite a 2–1 defeat against ATK FC in the final, Valskis was impressive throughout the season.

Valskis wins Golden Boot in stellar 2019-20 ISL season

A turning point in Valskis’ ISL career came when he won the Golden Boot during the 2019–20 season. Despite an early goal deficit, he finished the campaign with an impressive 15 goals, earning the award based on better goals-to-minute ratio, his consistency was evident as Chennaiyin FC remained undefeated in every game.

Joining Jamshedpur FC in the 2020–21 season, Valskis made a memorable debut by scoring against his former club, Chennaiyin FC. Despite facing challenges in replicating his excellent form from the previous season, he finished as the club’s top scorer with eight goals. He scored four goals upon his return to Chennaiyin FC in the 2021–22 season, ending his Indian football journey.

Valskis has left a significant legacy in Indian football, leaving an indelible mark on the teams he represented. His remarkable goalscoring ability, Golden Boot achievement and vital contribution during the playoff runs will be missed by the fans as Nerijus Valskis bids farewell to the vibrant world of Indian football.
