Dominance of spinners on the first day

India vs England 5th Test Day One: Fifth Test match between India and England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, England, after winning the toss and batting first, scored a total of 218 runs before being bowled out. Ashwin made his 100th Test match memorable by taking four important wickets, in which Kuldeep Yadav took 5 wickets of England players, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed with one wicket, till stumps India was 135/1 in 30 overs. India’s openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma gave a solid start by making a partnership of 94 runs. Notably, Jaiswal played a brilliant inning of 57 runs which included 3 sixes and 5 fours, while Rohit Sharma remained on the field with 52 not out. Jaiswal broke Kohli’s record, close to 1000 runs

Jaiswal had a momentous day as he overtook Virat Kohli’s record of scoring the most runs by an Indian in a Test series against England. The young batsman’s innings has been the highlight of the series and he is now just 29 runs away from reaching the 1000-run mark in Test cricket.

On the first day, Zak Crawley impressed for England, scoring a half-century of 79 off 108 balls. However, effective bowling from Kuldeep Yadav restricted England to 218 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets, including the crucial wicket of Jonny Bairstow, to reach the milestone of 6000 Test runs.

India aim to take substantial lead against England

Ben Foakes was dismissed by Ashwin and his wicket fell very quickly due to the aggressive attitude of Tom Hartley. Joe Root could contribute only 26 runs with his bat and fell victim to Ravindra Jadeja. England’s batting line-up faced a challenging task against the Indian bowlers and Kuldeep Yadav’s innings was a testament to the spin-friendly conditions.

India’s batting will be on display on the second day, with the experienced pair of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma aiming to take a substantial lead for the hosts, who are currently trailing by 83 runs. On the other hand, if England want to survive in this match, they will have to take 9 wickets as quickly as possible, which does not look easy. India has lost only one wicket today in the form of Jaiswal.
