CSK vs RCB IPL 2024 Opening Match: IPL season 2024 has started, in which the first match of IPL will be played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and last year’s champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home M. A. Chidambaram Stadium at 8:00 pm (IST).

Preview

Five-time champion CSK will defend its title against Bengaluru in the opening match of IPL. CSK has been a team that has won back to back IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, CSK won its first title. RCB has not won even a title yet, although RCB has also played four finals of IPL but they have faced defeat every time.

Rivalry

Both the teams had played the final in 2011 in which CSK, batting first, lost 5 wickets and scored 205 runs. In reply, RCB scored only 147 runs. CSK has not changed its captain since the time IPL started, although last year in 2023, Ravinder Jadeja captained CSK. RCB changed many of its captains but they have failed to win the IPL trophy. Currently Faf du Plessis is handling the command of the team.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have played each other 31 times in the IPL so far, in which CSK has won a total of 20 matches while RCB has won only 10 matches while one match has been inconclusive in the history of IPL so far. Chennai is dominating. In the 2023 season of IPL, both the teams last clashed in match number 24 in which CSK batted first and scored 226 runs for 6 wickets. On behalf of CSK, Devon Conway batted stormily and scored 83 runs in just 45 balls. Shivam Dubey had also scored a brilliant 52 runs in just 27 balls.

When RCB came out to bat, they had a target of 227, in reply team captain Faf Du Plessis gave a stormy start in which he became the victim of Moeen Ali by scoring 62 runs in 33 balls at a strike rate of around 190. Glenn Maxwell scored the most runs for the team with 76 runs in 36 balls at a strike rate of more than 200. The team failed to reach the target of 227 and RCB could only score 218 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings: This year some new faces have joined the team, out of which Shardul Thakur’s team has returned again, while New Zealand’s two main all-rounders Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell have joined this time as new faces in bowling. Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rehman has joined the department.

However, due to injury in the team, Devon Conway has not been able to join the team yet. Rachin Ravindra can be seen as the opening batsman for the team in the opening match of IPL. Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisa Pathirana is also injured due to which he will also not be able to play.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB finished the 2023 season in sixth place, winning only 2 of the last 5 matches while losing 3. This time the team has changed a lot, from the players in the team to the team logo and even the color of the jersey.
