17th season of IPL 2024 schedule will start with an exciting start at the MA Chidambaram Stadium

The 17th season of the Indian Premier League has reached its peak as the Board of Control for Cricket in India released the schedule of the first 21 matches on Thursday, February 22. Last season’s champions Chennai Super Kings will open the tournament against Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium, on March 22. This will be the ninth time that the Chennai team will play the opening match of an IPL season.

Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, have previously made their IPL debut in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. The opening encounter against RCB promises to create an exciting atmosphere as expected.

Delhi Capitals will play its first two matches in Visakhapatnam. It has been decided to organize these matches away from their home ground. Visakhapatnam has been held due to the Women’s Premier League final being held in Delhi. Due to the busy schedule, ample time is required to prepare the grounds for IPL matches. Delhi Capitals’ first two matches will be played in Visakhapatnam before returning to their home base.

21 matches, 10 cities, two weeks – two double-headers announced amid general election caution

The IPL 2024 schedule, covering the first 21 matches, will take place across 10 cities over a two-week period, with each team playing a minimum of three matches and a maximum of five matches. BCCI told in a press conference that there will be two double headers in the first weekend.

Saturday will begin with Punjab Kings hosting Delhi Capitals on the afternoon, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders welcoming Sunrisers Hyderabad in the evening. On Sunday afternoon, home team Rajasthan Royals will face Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur, while in the evening, Gujarat Titans will face five-time winners Mumbai Indians.

One notable aspect is that the complete IPL schedule has not been released due to the impending general elections in the country. BCCI plans to release the schedule of the remaining matches after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates. The Board stressed its commitment to work closely with the government and security agencies to follow necessary protocols and advisories related to the elections.

IPL 2024 confirms entire tournament in India

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the entire tournament will be held in the home country. Unlike 2009 when the IPL was played entirely in South Africa and 2014 when some matches were held in the UAE due to general elections, the BCCI assured fans that the 2024 season will be held in India regardless of the Lok Sabha elections. Will be organized only.

Finally, the excitement for IPL 2024 is reaching new heights as the schedule for the first two weeks is revealed. The tournament is going to get off to a great start in the opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Cricket lovers can look forward to an action-packed weekend with double headers and a showcase of talent from some of the best teams in the cricket world. As the country eagerly awaits the full schedule, fans can gear up for another exciting season of the Tata Indian Premier League, scheduled to run from March 22 to April 7, 2024.
