As the fifth and final Test between India and England begins in Dharamsala, cricket fans will witness the remarkable feat of two legends, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow, as they take the field for their 100th Test match. Also, across the Tasman Sea, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Tim Southee will look to achieve the same feat in their second and final Test against Australia.

The last time such an incident happened was during the England-Australia Ashes series in Perth in 2013, where both Alastair Cook and Michael Clarke celebrated their 100th Test together. This makes it an even rarer sight in the current scenario for two pairs of players to achieve this feat together.

This is only the second time in the history of Test cricket that players from two teams have reached the coveted 100-Test milestone in the same match. The first such incident happened in the year 2000, when former England captains Michael Atherton and Alec Stewart achieved the feat against West Indies at Old Trafford. In 2006, South Africa’s Jacques Kallis, along with New Zealand’s Shaun Pollock and Stephen Fleming, made history by playing their 100th Test in the same match at Centurion.
