Nashville SC have announced the signing of Canadian winger Jacob Shaffelburg on loan from Toronto FC until the end of the 2022 season.

Nashville have also acquired a 2022 international roster slot from TFC, who have received $225k in General Allocation Money (GAM) for the whole deal. Nashville have the option to make Shaffelburg’s loan transfer permanent in 2023.

“Jacob is a versatile wide player with rapid pace that makes him a constant threat,” Nashville SC general manager Mike Jacobs said in a club press release. “We are excited to add him as he has the potential to provide a different dimension to our group. At a young age, he also has excellent experience in MLS as well as in representing his country.”

Shaffelburg – able to play on the wing or as a wing-back – arrives in Nashville after making 61 senior appearances for Toronto since his debut in 2019, scoring four goals and assisting another 10 across all competitions.

The 22-year-old helped TFC win the 2020 Canadian Championship, while he has three CanMNT caps to his name so far – including two during Les Rouges‘ successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

Nashville currently sit seventh in the Western Conference, just above the Playoff line, while TFC – who recently signed Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi – remain 13th in the East.
